People’s Teahouse Workers of the World (Re)Unite!

During the 1970s and 1980s, the People’s Teahouse served dim sum, tea, ramen, and almond cookies to hungry Stanford students, next to Madera House (today called the Okada House). The volunteer work force consisted mainly of Asian Theme House residents (then located in Junipero, and later moved to Okada), along with members of JRA (Junipero Ringers Association), AASA (Asian American Students Association), and anyone else willing to contribute to maintaining this unique venue. All proceeds were donated to Asian community groups by vote of the Teahouse Workers.

Specialties from the People’s Teahouse menu will be available for tasting at this Reunion Homecoming event. This Reunion Year, many of the first wave of Workers and Managers will be present, to share their experiences and stories. Final details and registration information will be posted soon, so please keep up with your SAPAAC newsletters and emails.

2/2/2019 | Stanford Center for Asian Health Research and Education (CARE)

An audience of about 80 filled a lecture room on a stormy Saturday night to hear faculty member Dr. Bryant Lin introduce a new Stanford Medical School program focusing on Asian health issues. February 2019 | SAPAAC Lunar New Year Celebrations

SAPAAC rang in the Year of the Pig with old and new friends, many of whom are new SAPAAC members in six spots across the US: Seattle, New York, Texas, Bay Area, SoCal, and Sacramento. Some events were in partnership with other clubs, shout out to board member Susan Hainze, MS '84, with Stanford Club of Washington and Nelson Hsu, '91, MS '93, with The Stanford Club of Dallas/Ft. Worth. Some were purely volunteer-led like Tony Tong, '95, and Drs. Joe, '96, and Jen Hsu, and the rest were led by board members Mo Fong, '95, MS '96, and also Simon Zheng, '14, MS '15. 2/17/2019: SAPAAC in Seattle | Lunar New Year Dim Sum Luncheon

This year’s Lunar New Year Dim Sum Luncheon was postponed for a week due to snow! We still had a very nice turnout of 34 people on February 17th, 2019. This is the 4th year the event has been held at Dim Sum Factory in Factoria Mall of Bellevue. The luncheon was organized as a buffet style, allowing alumni, family, and guests to more easily migrate from table to table to mingle with each other. The food was delicious, and everyone had a wonderful time!
